Municipal leaders in Ontario say that a provincial plan aimed
at protecting caribou and their habitat would cause an immediate 25% reduction
in wood supply available to the forest products industry, and a 65% reduction in
less than 30 years, according to The Working Forest newspaper. In a press
release, the Northeastern Ontario Municipal Association said the province's new
Caribou Conservation Policy appears to be a politically motivated attempt to
satisfy environmentalists who live thousands of kilometers from the region. -
