Cheslatta Forest Products Ltd. in Burns Lake, B.C., has officially shut down,
following extended downtime, according to the Lake District News. The sawmill
has been down since October 2008, although the planer has operated sporadically
since then. In a statement issued to the newspaper, the mill's closure was
attributed to a lack of modern three-phase power, skyrocketing fuel costs, the
impending expiration of the mill's non-renewable beehive burning permit, and
diminishing recovery of lumber from beetle-killed logs. - 10/26/2011
