Lumber production in British Columbia reached 8.2 billion board feet through August, 7% ahead of the 2010 pace, according to Statistics Canada. Canadian production was up only 2%, to 15.1 bbf, tempered by a decrease in Quebec and two other eastern provinces. Although production in Ontario gained 2%, it declined 25% from July to August, to 96 million board feet. National production for August was 1.9 bbf, changed just 1% or less compared to any of the previous three months. The B.C. Coast region produced 123 mmbf in August, up 16% from July and up 27% from August 2010. Its 12% year-to-date gain, to 901 mmbf, was eclipsed only by the Southern Interior, up 16% to 2.2 bbf. 11/02/2011
